Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today said that Umno members' actions in burning a DAP flag in Penang last week should not be made an issue, pointing out that Umno's flag was also stepped on and burned before.

Despite admitting that its members were behind the act, the disciplinary board had closed the case after ruling that the members had taken the action "with reasons", he said.
"I received the report and we discussed with the disciplinary board. There was a reason why they decided to burn the flag," the Putrajaya MP, who is better know as Ku Nan, told reporters at Jusco Setiawangsa today.

He also urged all parties, be it Umno or DAP, to be more tolerant of one another.
Last week, Penang Umno members burned the DAP flag in front of Komtar as an act of retaliation after the Penang City Council (MBPP) attempted to take down a structure with the Umno logo outside a building housing the Umno headquarters in Penang.
The council had argued that the structure was illegal and no prior permission was sought, but its officers could not remove the structure as they were stopped by Umno members.
Days later, Penang Umno handed over a memorandum to the Chief Minister and protested in front of the Komtar building where his office is located.
