KUALA LUMPUR: Investigation into an alleged conspiracy to topple the Barisan Nasional government began with police recording a statement from Ho Kay Tat who is the publisher and chief executive officer of The Edge Media Group.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar today confirmed that a statement was recorded “recently to facilitate investigations under Section 124 of the Penal Code”.
Ho was not named but Khalid did tell The Rakyat Post: “Investigations are still underway… it would be inappropriate for me to confirm or deny at this juncture the identity of the individual.”
Ho is said to be among the 10 Malaysian politicians and corporate figures who allegedly bought damaging documents connected with 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and PetroSaudi International (PSI).
The 10 Malaysians were named by former PSI employee Swiss Xavier Andre Justo who is under police custody in Thailand where police are investigating him for a possible “blackmail attempt” against PSI, a company linked to 1MDB.
In publisher Ho’s case, he would likely be investigated under Section 124 D of the Penal Code which reads:
“Whoever, by any means, directly or indirectly, prints, publicises, sells, issues, circulates or reproduces any document or publication detrimental to parliamentary democracy shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 15 years.”
Ho and several others who recently made statements regarding 1MDB have been banned from leaving the country, including Member of Parliament Tony Pua.
