Chinese youths belting out Raya song on KTM ride

Amidst the violence that had occurred at Low Yat Plaza during the weekend, the sight of a group of Chinese youths singing a Hari Raya song would likely melt the hearts of many.

A 30-second video clip shared by Twitter user Arisya has since gone viral. The clip was shared last night and has since garnered more than 3,500 retweets.

Padunya Chinese pun nyanyi lagu raya dalam KTM! (How cool is this, the Chinese singing a Hari Raya song in a KTM!),” tweeted Arisya, complete with heart-shaped emoticons.

.The clip shows Chinese youths singing Saloma’s evergreen Selamat Hari Raya in a Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTM) train.

The youths seemed to enjoy themselves singing the song and clapping their hands in tune to the song.

It is unclear, however, when exactly the video clip was taken.

'This is beautiful, symbol of unity'

Twitter user Nazrull Halim, commenting on the video said: "(This is the) point of view of Malaysia I want to live in. Bukan sibuk tak habis habis pasal gaduh (Instead of being engrossed in fighting)."

Marr Mohamad tweeted: “Indahnya, lambang perpaduan bangsa ditengah2 kemelut Low Yat (This is beautiful, the symbol of unity amidst the Low Yat crisis)."

Twitter user Feyyogan on the other hand said that Malays and the Chinese are actually harmonious and that there were quarters who have the intention to cause riots.

The fracas which erupted at Low Yat Plaza over the weekend stemmed from a fight on Saturday evening, where a theft suspect, together with his friends, had attacked an electronics store at the mall.

They had claimed that the suspect was cheated by shopkeepers. Police however confirmed that the suspect had indeed stolen the handphone.

Sunday night saw several media personnel and a bar staff injured after a gathering in response to the earlier fight turned rowdy.
