USJ 8 police station chief ASP Jasni Zolpa and Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh were visiting the bazaar to hand out dates, when he noticed a small child walking around without shoes.
"While giving out the dates, Jasni saw and brought to my attention a child, who looked to be just over a year old, walking around barefoot.
“As I was wondering how that child could walk unshod on the hot tarred road, I realised something was not right and sent my staff to go after the child.
"My assistant found the child with the mother, begging at the bazaar," she said.
Yeoh said the two were taken to the USJ 8 police station for questioning.
"Police discovered that the mother had no documents on her. She claimed that she had taken a taxi from Damansara Perdana to the bazaar," she said.
Yeoh said she suspected the mother and child of belonging to a syndicate.
Jasni said police were going to the woman's house in Damansara Damai to investigate her claim that she had a another child there.
"The mother claims she has an older child at home. Our officers will investigate the matter," he said.
Jasni said the mother would be detained while the child would be placed under the care of the state Welfare Department.
