NAJIB'S LAST CARD: 'Drastic change cannot be ruled out' in Cabinet resuffle - Utusan

NAJIB'S LAST CARD: 'Drastic change cannot be ruled out' in Cabinet resuffle - Utusan
KUALA LUMPUR - Tan Sri Shahrir Samad to be made a minister after Hari Raya?
Awang Selamat — the pseudonym for Utusan Malaysia’s collective editorial — said the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club chairman is among the names linked to a probable Cabinet reshuffle after the Raya celebrations.
The Umno-owned daily said Shahrir is expected to be given a very senior Cabinet post.
“He is influential, revered and experienced and can help the cabinet face the current political challenges of late.”
Apart from Shahrir, Awang Selamat also wrote Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal is expected to replace Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan as the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister.
Shafie is currently the Rural and Regional Development Minister.
The Malay daily went on to write that Abdul Rahman meanwhile would take over as the Communications and Multimedia Minister from Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek. The latter would be given another ministerial post.
“Two ministers would be dropped, one of whom would be offered to become a chairman for a government linked company.”
Awang Selamat also wrote the Natural Resources and Environment ministerial post would be left vacant until the MIC re-elections in September is completed.
Datuk Seri G. Palanivel is currently the minister but due to the internal crisis plaguing the Indian based party, which saw the Cameron Highlands lawmaker stripped off his presidency, the post is expected to see a new face.
According to Awang Selamat, Tan Sri Shahrir Samad is is influential, revered and experienced and can help the cabinet face the current political challenges of late.
Awang Selamat wrote if indeed Palanivel is dropped, an acting minister would be named.
The reshuffle this time, the daily wrote, round would also see at least two new deputy ministers named.
“It is also understood changes will be made in Umno’s line-up.”
The daily then pointed out Indonesian president Joko Widodo (Jokowi) also wanted to reshuffle his cabinet despite being a relatively new line-up.
Jokowi, it argued, had openly said he wanted those who were loyal to him and having a commanding presence in the eyes of the people.
Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Awang Selamat wrote, is often criticised for wanting to not hurt the feelings of others and playing safe when reshuffling the Cabinet to weed out those who are not proactive and inactive.
That the daily wrote, was Najib’s style of wanting to give his Cabinet the opportunity to improve themselves.
Najib, it added, needed a new team that was not only dynamic but committed to support him in times of crisis.
Awang Selamat said the reshuffle would also be a clear message, Najib wanted to rise from the political uncertainties following the 1Malaysia Development Bhd crisis.
“The possibility Najib makes a drastic change cannot be ruled out.” - Therakyatpost
