Only the parliamentary select committee can make the decision on Petaling Jaya MP Tony Pua's post in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), said Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.
The PAC chief said this was because the appointment of a PAC member was made by the committee chaired by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.
"His (Pua) name was proposed by the party and he was chosen by the select committee. So, only the committee can suspend his membership.”
Nur Jazlan said this in response to a question on Pua's post in PAC following an allegation of Pua meeting former PetroSaudi International Ltd executive Xavier Andre Justo in Singapore.
Yesterday, the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) also urged Pua to exempt himself from involvement in PAC's probe into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
BNBBC chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad was reported as saying that it was to ensure that PAC's credibility would not be questioned following the allegation.
Nur Jazlan also said Pua's post in the PAC would not affect its investigations into 1MDB.
"Since we (PAC members) are chosen from (the various available) parties, we will just do our job to give our views and we are neutral."
PAC's investigations into 1MDB began on May 19.
