SPECTRE OF ALTANTUYA: Mongolian woman in Bandar Utama shot by 2 ex-cops, one of whom from elite squad

SPECTRE OF ALTANTUYA: Mongolian woman in Bandar Utama shot by 2 ex-cops, one of whom from elite squad
PETALING JAYA - The shooting of a 26-year-old Mongolian woman at Dataran Bandar Utama last month was allegedly the work of two former policemen, one who was an ex-member of the federal Special Action Squad (UTK).
They were allegedly hired to carry out the hit on a 35-year-old Sarawakian businessman over business feud but mistakenly shot the foreigner in a haste to pull off the job.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Azmi Abu Kassim said a trail of evidence following the shooting of the Mongolian identified as Nomin Erdene on June 15 led investigators to the suspects in several raids in the Klang Valley two weeks ago.
He said investigations showed that the Mongolian was shot and injured by mistake in the attack.
Police investigations also showed that the attempt to hit on the Sarawakian was over a dispute involving gangland activities in Sarawak.
It is also learnt that the Sarawakian had run foul of the law in the past.
On Monday, ASP Haris Faddila Hasim, 39, former policemen Mohd Nizam Manshor, 34, and Indra Zaidi Zamani, 32 were charged together with businessman Lau Ngik Yin, 45, and his bodyguard, Zainuddin Rosman, 36 for criminal conspiracy under section 120b(i) of the Penal Code.
The offence carries the death penalty or a minimum jail term of two years, if found guilty.
It is learnt that Haris was suspended from the police force following his arrest.
He and the ex-cops were attached to the police anti-narcotics department and the federal Special Action Squad (UTK).
Nomin who came to Malaysia on a social visit visa was in the front passenger seat of a parked Toyota Land Cruiser with the Sarawakian man when a motorcyclist and his pillion rider pulled over next to them before opening fire with a handgun.
The gunman fired eight gunshots, five of which hit Nomin on her shoulder and chest.
A quick-thinking motorist who was behind their car rammed into the attackers on seeing the attack causing the gunman and his accomplice to fall.
However, the men managed to pick up their machine and fled from the scene.
Nomin who survived the attack was initially warded at a private hospital before being transfered to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) where she underwent surgery for her injuries.
It is learnt that she was discharged from the hospital after recovering from her wounds last week. - Sundaily
