Local media reported that police in Medan arrested two USU final year medical and dental students from Malaysia for drug possession worth RM180.
JAKARTA: Education Malaysia (EM) in Indonesia will accede to any action by Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) against two Malaysian students believed to be involved in drugs.
Its director, Dr Juzhar Jusoh said EM had always respected the rules established by USU in disciplining students, including foreign students, at the university.
“EM has experienced a breach of discipline among Malaysian students and we will accede to any action taken,” he told reporters here.
Yesterday, local media reported that police in Medan arrested two USU final-year medical and dental students from Malaysia for drug possession.
The two were detained shortly after buying drugs from a trafficker at Kampung Kubur Jalan Airlangga in Medan.
Medan Baru Local Police Chief, Roni Sidabutar was quoted as saying both Malaysian students, who are in their 20’s, were now being held at the police station for further investigations.
He said police received information on drug trafficking at the village, and after rushing to the area, his men trailed the two men who were behaving suspiciously.
When they were detained, police found several Ecstacy pills in one of the suspect’s pockets and initial investigations revealed they bought the drugs for Rp600,000 (approximately RM180), said Roni.
Dr Juzhar said it was understood that parents of both students have met with the Consulate-General of Malaysia in Medan to obtain more information.
“The case is being monitored by an officer at the consulate,” he said.
