MP: Umno 'biadap' for Mukhriz revolt during sultan's birthday

PAS' Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar has blasted Kedah Umno as "insolent" (biadap) for initiating a coup against Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir while the Kedah sultan's birthday celebrations are ongoing.
The state Umno's actions, alluded the PAS parliamentarian, is tantamount to insulting the state's monarch.
Mahfuz said tomorrow is the day that Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah will be handing out awards and medals following his official birthday which fell on January 17.
"All of a sudden they presented the sultan and the people of Kedah, who are celebrating in joy, with an uncouth action.
"I do not wish to deny their (Umno) right but it is insolent and rude for them to do so when Kedah is still celebrating the 88th birthday of their sultan who is also the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong," he said in a statement today.
Mahfuz said this in reference to Kedah Umno deputy chief Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, who, flanked by senior state Umno leaders, announced a loss of confidence in Mukhriz and demanded that he be replaced.
Najib strikes back
The move is seen as paving the way for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to strike back at former premier Mahathir Mohamad, who is Mukhriz's father.
As former federal minister Zaid Ibrahim had opined, this is akin to punishing the son for the sins of the father.
Mahathir had criticised the prime minister alleging grievous wrongdoings and has vowed to see Najib removed from office.
In any case, Mahfuz said the move have sullied the celebration and soured its supposed joy into restlessness.
"Kedah Umno's uncouth and disrespectful move, led by Bashah and other Kedah Umno state assemblypersons means none of them is qualified to become menteri besar," he said.
Ahmad Bashah however has been speculated to be one of the frontrunners for the Kedah menteri besar post if Mukhriz is ousted.
He was the previously candidate for menteri besar during the 13th general election and led the Umno election campaign but had to make way to Mukhriz due to current MB's popularity as his father is a well-respected local. -Mkini
