KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had asked for more time to resolve the political crisis in Kedah Umno’s leadership.
According to a source, this was stated at the meeting between Najib and Kedah Umno division heads, members of state Legislative Assembly and Kedah Umno Members of Parliament held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), here, today.
“The Prime Minister understands and accepts the urgency created by Kedah Umno but he asked for time to decide.
“The PM will act based on existing procedures and the law,” the source added, saying that Najib had promised to make a decision in the near future.
The political upheaval started when Kedah Umno liaison deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah recently held a Press conference to say that the party’s leaders in the state had rejected the leadership of Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir as the Menteri Besar.
Ahmad Bashah, at the Press conference, urged Najib to reshuffle the party leadership in Kedah.
According to sources, Ahmad Bashah informed the PM that the decision to change Mukhriz as the Menteri Besar of Kedah was unanimously supported by Kedah Umno.
The source added that Najib had advised the party leadership to be selfless.
“The PM said he wants an election and everyone cannot just think of himself alone,” said the source.
Najib was present at Dewan Tun Hussein Onn at 4.45pm to meet with the leadership of Kedah Umno and left at 5.20pm. - Therakyatpost
