Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has jumped on the social media governance bandwagon, short circuiting normal government channels to issue direct orders to his Cabinet and government departments via Facebook.
Just hours after the chief of police sent a Twitter directive asking his officers to investigate a satirical depiction of the PM, Najib himself issued a Facebook directive to the Health Ministry to look in the dilapidated conditions at an east coast hospital's intensive care unit.
"I note the report in The Star today about the intensive care unit at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan. KEMENTERIAN KESIHATAN MALAYSIA, Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam , Noor Hisham Abdullah, please take immediate action on this matter and expedite rectification works as well as take steps to solve this as soon as possible."
Najib tagged the Health Ministry's Facebook account, as well as Health Minister S Subramaniam and the Health Department director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah in the message.
He was referring to the front page news report in the English daily, "Too hot to be patient", which highlighted the humid conditions in the medical care facility after the air conditioning malfunctioned.
This had caused major discomfort to staff and especially the patients who had to cool down with fans and at times having to open the windows to let the air in.
Though this led to more problems with mosquitoes and flies, bringing the risk of infection for the intensive care patients. -Mkini
