RM2.6b or RM4b, Kit Siang asks MACC

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) must disclose if the claim that RM4 billion was funnelled into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's bank accounts is true.

In making the demand, Lim Kit Siang said MACC must not equivocate on this question.

The veteran DAP leader also wanted the commission to reveal if it recommended any charge against Najib in relation to the RM42 million from SRC International transferred into the prime minister’s accounts.

"And if so, how many?" he asked in a media statement.

Yesterday, MACC denied a Sarawak Report article which claimed the commission recommended a total of 37 charges in the investigating papers submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers.

The papers have since been returned to the commission for further clarification.

The same Sarawak Report article also claimed it is now widely known in Umno circles, due to investigations, that the RM2.6 billion transferred in March 2013 was just a portion of the sum which went into the same AmBank account during the period after 2011.

The RM2.6 billion was described as political donation from an unidentified Middle Eastern source, which was also confirmed by MACC.

Najib has repeatedly denied abusing public funds for personal gain and blamed such allegations on those conspiring to topple him.

However, he has remained tightlipped on the RM42 million from the Finance Ministry-owned SRC International, a former 1MDB subsidiary.

According to Lim, the latest developments have debunked the prime minister's 2016 New Year Message that his twin mega scandals have been resolved.

"In fact, the twin mega scandals have become even greater issues in the new year – and there can be no excuse for Najib to remain silent on whether the deposits into his personal banking accounts totalled some RM4 billion and not just RM2.6 billion, purportedly for Umno's 13th general election campaign," he said.

The DAP leader then spelled out five questions which Malaysians are seeking answers for, which are:

1.What are the total amounts of these donations deposited into Najib's personal banking accounts – RM2.6 billion, RM4 billion or more?

2.Who were the donors, one or more, and which foreign country or countries involved

3.What were the motives for such donations – to fight Israel, ISIS, Shiites, 'liberal' Muslims, DAP or who?

4.Where have the donations gone to? Who were the beneficiaries, whether ministers or MPs, how much each had received, how they had spent them; and

5.What is left of these astronomical figures and where are the monies now

Lim also pointed to Najib’s failure to initiate legal and court proceedings against the Wall Street Journal which first exposed the RM2.6 billion issue.

"Why the failure to initiate legal proceedings to clear his name?

"Malaysians expect an answer from. Is Najib prepared to furnish it before the special Parliament session on Jan 26 and 27 on the TPPA (Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement)?

"Najib should speak up and answer these questions or he should step down as prime minister," he added. -Mkini
