Prime Minister says the Opposition cannot shape the future and points out that BN has allocated 1,000ha for nine independent Chinese schools in Perak.
KUALA KANGSAR: Prime Minister Najib Razak has urged the Chinese community here to realise that the Opposition, particularly the DAP, cannot shape the future.
“Don’t be fooled again. Even the Chinese in Sarawak do not believe in the Opposition.
“Many seats have been won by SUPP and Barisan Nasional in Sarawak,” Najib, who is also the Umno president, said in his speech at an event at SMK Tsung Wah Kuala Kangsar.
In the Sarawak election last month, BN managed to win back some of the Chinese votes, with SUPP managing to win seven out of 13 seats it contested.
DAP, meanwhile, lost five of the 12 seats it previously held.
Najib went on to urge the Chinese community to vote for the Kuala Kangsar BN candidate Mastura Mohd Yazid, the widow of former Kuala Kangsar MP Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad.
“Like Khair-il, she will do what is best for all the races.”
Najib also hoped that the Perak Government’s recent decision to allocate 1,000 hectares of land to nine Chinese independent high schools in the state would be well-received by the community.
The schools are also poised to receive RM400,000 annually.
“This is a meaningful investment for the Tionghua schools,” said Najib.
According to a recent report by Oriental Daily, the elderly Chinese community here could very well be the “kingmakers”, with a large percentage of the young voters, who are outstation, less likely to return home to cast ballots.
Kuala Kangsar has 32,949 registered voters, consisting of 22,496 Malays, 7,757 Chinese, 2,287 Indians, 16 Sarawak Bumiputeras, 13 Sabah Bumiputeras and 330 Orang Asli.
The parliamentary constituency will see a four-cornered contest by BN, PAS, Amanah and an independent candidate.
