SG BESAR POLLS Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hopes voters in the twin by-elections will not be swayed by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"It is hoped that Mahathir's speech, which has gone viral on the social media, will not influence voters in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar," Zahid said at a press conference in Sungai Besar today.
Mahathir showed up in the Selangor constituency earlier today to campaign for Amanah, and spoke against the BN coalition led by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
The former premier is scheduled to speak in Kuala Kangsar tomorrow before returning next Thursday.
Zahid said Mahathir is testing to see how far his popularity can take him.
However he said many people, even those who sympathised with Mahathir, could not accept his message now.
Zahid is also confident that voters on the fence will swing back to BN, ensuring the ruling coalitions victory in the by-elections.
Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar are battlegrounds for three ways BN, Amanah and PAS.
Both constituencies go to the polls on June 18. -mkini
