Many willing to spend for Ramadan buffet at hotels

Spending a lot for breaking of fast at big hotels during Ramadan seems to have become a trend.
Although expensive, Ramadan packages offered by these hotels sell well.
A survey by Bernama found those who opt to break their fast at hotels and willing to pay as much as RM199 per pax is because of the variety of food and dessert.
Private sector employee Mohd Razif Syukor, 36, who was with a friend at a hotel for a breaking of fast, said he chose the hotel because of its food spread, comprising more than 100 traditional dishes.
“It is not always that I have my breaking fast at a hotel. I want to try the food here. Furthermore, my friend and I like to eat,” he said.
He said the hotel also had facilities, like prayer room, for Muslims who went to break their fast there.
Jamilah Adnan, 40, said her busy work schedule made her frequent the hotels or restaurants for breaking of fast.
“Buffet is easier than having to stop on the way, like at a Ramadan bazaar, with the traffic congestion and parking. Also, there are hotels and restaurants and hotels where you can get a Ramadan buffet for RM50 per pax,” she said.
However, some people regard it a waste.
A private college student, Abdul Qawiy Abdul Yusof, 22, said the money spent on expensive Ramadan buffet could be used for other things.

At buffet meals, people also tend to waste a lot of food, he said.
“With RM50, there is a lot of food stuff you can buy at the market and for that amount it can lasts for two to three days,” he added.
Suziyanti Aiman, 25, also said buying Ramadan buffet for the breaking of fast is a waste.
“There is only so much you can eat,” she said.
Meanwhile, Negri Sembilan mufti Mohd Yusof Ahmad said Islam encourages its followers to exercise moderation for breaking of fast, and the best is to cook.
“Breaking fast at home can avoid wastage,” he added.
