As Team AA battles Team RR, Team 'Neutral' hopes to snatch win in PKR polls

Non-aligned PKR candidates are hoping to capitalise on the clash between the camps of deputy president Azmin Ali and his challenger Rafizi Ramli in the upcoming party polls.
G Balasubramaniam, who is contesting for vice-president, said the elections would be tight this time around.
"However, I am confident the clash between candidates from Team AA (Azmin) and Team RR (Rafizi) will create opportunities for neutral candidates.
"These are candidates who are not supported by either camp," he told Malaysiakini.
Balasubramaniam said the chances are bright for the neutral candidates due to the intense clash between the two camps at the branch level.
"Most of the branches are facing more than two-cornered fights.
“This shows that candidates from Team AA and Team RR contesting for branch chief positions are not favoured at the branch level. This is the reason for the three and four-cornered fights,” he added.
Apart from Balasubramaniam, there are 11 others contesting for the four vice-president positions.
Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah, Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul, Selayang MP William Leong and Sungai Siput MP S Kesavan are said to be aligned to Rafizi's camp.
Whereas, Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamarudin, Minister of Water, Land and Natural Resources Dr Xavier Jayakumar, former Batu MP Tian Chua, Primary Industries Deputy Minister Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin and former ISA detainee K Vasantha Kumar are believed to be with Azmin.
Terengganu PKR chief Azan Ismail, who is the sole candidate from the East Coast for the vice-president position, has not announced for either camp.
On the other hand, Michael Tamil, the former Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) councillor, is contesting for vice-president on the grounds that PKR has no leaders to represent the Indian community.
Meanwhile, Balasubramaniam predicted that neutral candidates would also win places in the central committee.
"There are 91 members competing for the 20 positions.
“If we take 40 candidates and divide them as 20 representing Team AA and another 20 for Team RR, there are still 51 candidates who are neutral,” he added. - Mkini
