BOMBSHELL – DAIM BEHIND CAMPAIGN TO STOP ANWAR FROM BECOMING 8TH PM, SAYS PKR MP: IF TRUE, BRACE FOR A MAJOR FALLOUT AS BERSATU WON’T BE FAR BEHIND DAIM

PETALING JAYA: A PKR leader has named Putrajaya’s chief adviser Daim Zainuddin as among those out to stop Anwar Ibrahim from becoming the prime minister as promised under a deal reached among the Pakatan Harapan leadership prior to the May polls.
Speaking at an event in Seremban yesterday to whip up support for Rafizi Ramli, who is challenging incumbent Mohamed Azmin Ali for the deputy president’s post in the coming party polls, Kapar MP Abdullah Sani said there had been efforts to stop Anwar from taking over from Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“Many parties have been trying to stop Anwar from becoming the prime minister. Yes, we know they have been conspiring with those who have wronged Anwar. I can tell you openly. Daim Zainuddin, yes, his role in ensuring… if we do not choose Rafizi today, Anwar will definitely face difficulties to assume the prime minister’s role.
“Would you allow this obstacle to continue?” asked Abdullah in a rousing speech to endorse Rafizi and his team at the coming polls.
Rafizi, the PKR vice-president and former Pandan MP, has aligned himself to Anwar in his campaign for the number two post.
Rafizi said he represented the party’s spirit of “reformasi”, its battlecry for reforms when it was formed two decades ago on the back of protests following Mahathir’s dramatic sacking of Anwar as his deputy in 1998.
In the months leading to Anwar’s sacking, Mahathir had recalled Daim from retirement, to head the National Economic Action Committee (NEAC), which was formed to address the economic crisis.
Anwar during his many fiery speeches had also accused Daim of taking part in a conspiracy to end his political career.
During the recent general election, Daim actively took part in campaigning for PH candidates, including those from PKR. Following the coalition’s historic win in the polls, Mahathir named Daim to head a five-member team called the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP), which would advise his government in its first 100 days in power.
PH under an agreement signed by top leaders had named Anwar to replace Mahathir.
Although no time frame was given, Mahathir, 93, had suggested that he could serve for two years, or more if the people wanted him to stay longer.
