CM: Help me make Penang a model for Malaysia

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow is welcoming suggestions from Penangites on how to make the state prosper in the coming years.
"Much remains to be done after this, via various initiatives and approaches to achieve the Penang2030 vision," said Chow in a statement.
"I would like to invite Penangites, no matter where you are, to share your ideas and views with me," he added.
In the statement released in conjunction with Merdeka, Chow called for cooperation from all quarters to take the state to greater heights.
"Let us combine our energies to bring prosperity to the state so that Penang can be a model for Malaysia and the whole world," he said.
"I believe this is our gift to Malaysia."
Chow said the uniqueness of the country is not merely because of our history, majestic buildings, beauty of our surroundings, tourism or the delicious foods but due to the ability of a multiracial community to live harmoniously together under the same roof.
"We understand, respect and accept each other," he said.
"This year's Merdeka is definitely more meaningful.
"Malaysians have crafted a new history by saying goodbye to the BN federal government for the first time since 1957," he added.
Chow said for years the country was administered by kleptocrats, the country's finances were burdened by debts and our image was tarnished in the eyes of the world.
But today we can all be proud of ourselves with hope for a new Malaysia, he said.
He recalled that GE 14 presented a great united force where Malaysians arose with courage.
"Many worked hard to make sure their votes went safely into the ballot boxes.
"This is the true spirit of patriotism, instead of just shouting the slogan Merdeka," he said.
"Penang which changed government 10 years ago have achieved much and have been recognised in many areas," Chow added.
"This state dubbed 'Pearl of the Orient' remains a favourite among local and international tourists and investors".
On Wednesday, the chief minister presented Penang2030, a family-focused, green and smart vision for the state, to a 500 strong crowd that comprised many stakeholders.
He later took questions for another hour from NGOs and industry players. The event was also accessible via Facebook
During his speech at the event held in Eastern and Oriental Hotel, Chow said Penang's future is in Seberang Perai, dispelling years of criticisms that the state government had only focused development on the island. - Mkini
