Cops: Woman held for 42 days to investigate 136 reports

PETALING JAYA: Police say that Rosemary Ginam was held in custody for 42 days in order to facilitate investigations into 136 police reports against her company, says Comm Datuk Seri Amar Singh.
The Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director said that Rosemary, 38, was detained because she was the director of Dulcet Travel and Tours, the company that allegedly duped customers into buying fake tour packages.
"The cheating case, involving 136 victims amounted to losses of over RM2.2mil.
"She was also the signatory of the bank account where funds were deposited as well as the person who withdrew the cash," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
.Comm Amar also said that Rosemary would be charged soon.
Police have come under criticism after The Star reported that Rosemary was held under police custody for 42 days since July 17 without being charged.
Since her arrest, Rosemary has been taken to police stations in Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Penang, Melaka, Terengganu and Negri Sembilan.
She is married to Hasan Jambai, 40, and the couple has three children aged nine 14 and 17.
Hasan lodged a report with the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) on Monday (Aug 27) over the detention of his wife.
In July, The Star reported that 30 individuals had lodged separate police reports after collectively losing thousands of ringgit to the travel company.
The family believes that Rosemary is a scapegoat.- Star
