Harapan gov't still has some opposition traits, says PM

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said the present Pakatan Harapan administration might still have some traits left over from their days as opposition leaders.
"Recently, the change of government happened after 61 years of the opposition trying to take over.
"So when the government was formed, some of the opposition traits are still there but they have made changes," said Mahathir in his speech at the inauguration of 60 new Perdana Leadership Fellows in Putrajaya this morning.
"We should know how to be the opposition and how to act like the government," he said.
Mahathir noted that the programme - now in its sixth year – was a good platform to develop youths capable of carrying out multi-roles in the future governing of the nation.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, cabinet ministers and chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa.
Mahathir further said fellows who had been chosen to participate in the programme would get the opportunity to learn from their respective ministers the various aspects involved in government administration.
"The younger generation has a lot to learn in order to become leaders.
"So I hope that this programme will produce excellent results," he said.
Now in its sixth year, the Perdana Leadership Fellow is an internship programme under the Youth and Sports Ministry which is open to both students as well as local and overseas graduates.
