Hindraf 2.0 gives 100 more days to Harapan gov’t, asks to meet Dr M

The Hindu Rights Action Force 2.0 (Hindraf 2.0) is urging the federal government to fulfill its promises to the Indian community, especially the B75 income group, in the next 100 days.
In a forum to mark Pakatan Harapan's 100-day promises in Brickfields today, Hindraf 2.0 leader P Uthayakumar said Harapan has broken its promises to the Indian community which were made before the election.
Such promises included solving the problem of stateless Indians within 100 days of taking power, full financial aid status for 525 Tamil schools, setting a monthly minimum wage of RM1,500, and addressing homeless and landless issues involving the community, said Uthayakumar.
"Harapan has broken its promises to the Indian community. For instance, the citizenship and birth certificates issues have not been solved within 100 days (of being in power). That could have been done just merely by a stroke of the pen..but they did not do it. That's the first promise which is clearly stated in the manifesto for the Indian community," he said.
Uthayakumar added that majority of Indians were supportive of Pakatan Harapan before the election as the community are the most affected, and "the most victimised under the previous regime."
As a result, Uthayakumar said Hindraf 2.0 had sent a letter to the Prime Minister's Office yesterday to seek an audience with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and to grant the NGO 20 minutes to give a presentation on the B75 community.
"Another 100 days, and on Nov 25, which is an auspicious day to mark Hindraf's first rally on the same date in 2007, we are humbly asking the prime minister to invite us for tea.
"They couldn't fulfill the 100-day promises, fair enough. We have waited for 61 long years for a change and the dream came true (to change the government). So it should be no problem to wait for another 100 days," he said.
When asked what would happen if the meeting didn't materialise, Uthayakumar responded with a smile and said, "We will cross the bridge when we come to it."
The Harapan government, in its 150-page manifesto, had included 22 promises for the Indian community.
It states that the main goal of the Pakatan Harapan government is to raise the socioeconomic status of the Indian community so that they can compete and stand tall with the rest of society. - Mkini
