Putrajaya-Singapore talks on HSR to continue tomorrow

The federal government will continue its discussions with Singapore on the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project tomorrow.
Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali said he will have a meeting with Singapore Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan in Putrajaya to discuss the project, which the Pakatan Harapan-led administration intends to postpone.
"Very productive meeting I had with minister Khaw, where I presented the position taken by the Malaysian cabinet on HSR, and I am glad that the minister has taken note of our new position," Azmin said, describing his recent meeting with the transport minister.
"He (Khaw) will table this matter to the (Singapore) cabinet. I was told this will take place very soon.
"I just got the message that the minister is coming down to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow, and we will have a full update (on HSR) tomorrow afternoon," Azmin told reporters when met at Cardiac Vascular Sentral Hospital in Kuala Lumpur today.
Azmin was there to attend the private hospital's launch by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Harapan government claimed that the HSR would cost RM110 billion, compared to the RM74 billion estimated by the previous BN administration.
The high cost had led to Putrajaya to consider postponing the project.
Mahathir had, in his first month in office, said that the HSR would be scrapped and later, the cabinet decided to put it on hold instead. -Mkini
