PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli should seek clarification on the alleged graft probe against Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu's aide before launching an "attack".
Deputy Defence Minister Liew Chin Tong said Rafizi was just "one phone call away" from Mohamad, the aide and even himself.
"I have known the assistant to Mat Sabu for six years, we have been working very closely. I know what happened.
"He was (declared) bankrupt but he got the loan from friends and family (members) in order to pay off (his obligations) so that he can be appointed," he told Malaysiakini.
Liew said the matter should be left to the MACC to investigate and decide whether to charge the aide or clear his name.
"But I think for Rafizi to launch an attack, it is very unfair," said the senator from Pakatan Harapan.
Asked if Rafizi can still issue a statement on the matter, Liew said leaders in the ruling coalition should check with their allies before commenting on any issue.
On Tuesday, Malaysiakini reported that MACC was investigating Mohamad's aide over an RM800,000 assistance he had allegedly received to settle his bankruptcy status.
Rafizi claimed he was told that the sum used to settle the aide's bankrupt status came from a "crowdfunding" initiative.
However, the former Pandan MP, who was provided with documents on the payments amounting to over RM800,000, said the excuse was unacceptable.
Rafizi said the case also exposed the risks faced by members of the new Harapan government due to old habits.
He pointed out that while the government has changed, the same old players who are accustomed to offering bribes remained as suppliers.
“They also know which politicians or aides require money... There are also politicians and aides who are seduced by the offers of wealth, something they have not tasted when in the opposition.
“Because of this, those who deal with the federal government will attempt to get into the good books of the ministers, especially through their close aides,” he added.
Rafizi said the cabinet members and their family members should declare their assets to the public instead of the MACC alone.
Liew said he personally concurred with Rafizi's call for the cabinet members to declare their assets. - Mkini
