About 100 Umno supporters turned up in support of PAS' Seri Setia candidate Dr Halimah Ali at the nomination centre in Petaling Jaya today.
Those who were dressed in the party colours of red and blue stood out in the sea of green clothes donned by PAS supporters at the Civic Centre.
Gombak Umno Wanita Roszilah Zainuddin said her own presence could be seen as a form of support not just for the candidate, but also for Islam and Malays.
"We are giving our support for the sake of Islam, because I feel it is time Umno needs to unite for the sake of Islam," she said.
Roszilah (photo) added that Umno and PAS are both fighting for the same goal, which is to strengthen Islam.
Meanwhile, Klang Umno assistant secretary Kamsiah Kamaruddin said she was there after receiving instructions from Umno's top leadership.
"If we follow our top leadership, we have to give our full support for our religion which has been belittled by Pakatan Harapan.
"We place our party in one spot, (just as) we place Islam and whoever contests, and we will vote for PAS," she said.
Not only that, she said, PAS' candidate is a woman so she has more reason to support Halimah.
Meanwhile, PAS supporters said Umno had received guidance from Allah now that the party is open to working with PAS to defend Islam.
Federal Territories PAS Dewan Ulama permanent deputy chairperson Hoslan Hussin said it felt strange that Umno leaders were present at their campaign, but nonetheless, he described it as a "gift from Allah".
"They (Umno leaders) are down here because their leaders, a lot of them have engaged in corruption and their weaknesses are obvious among the Malays and so they have come to help the Malays from PAS who has been fighting since 1951.
"This (is guidance from Allah), if Allah shows you the way, no one can stop it," he said.
Some of Umno leaders present included Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam, Selangor Umno chairperson Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Umno Youth exco Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris who is better known as Papagomo. - Mkini
OMG! look at the umno leaders that present at Seri Setia to campaign for PAS. Same old faces and same chanting. We are here to protect islam and malay. I think otherwise. Actually they are there to play wayang kulit again. Thats a good sign for PH. UmnoPas played religious and race card again. Really stupid. Woi umnopas that strategy wont work.
