Najib settles first instalment of RM3.5 million bail
NAJIB Razak turned up at the Kuala Lumpur court complex this morning and paid the first instalment of his RM3.5 million bail.
The bail amount was set by the sessions court yesterday, after the former prime minister was slapped with multiple charges in relation to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal.
He paid RM1 million, and has until next Friday to settle the remainder.
Najib was accompanied by his son, Norashman, and bailors Mohd Nizar Najib and Mohd Shahrir Arifin.
“We will pay in stages, as set by the judge,” he said, before leaving the court complex.
He has been charged with four counts of abusing his power, under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act, and 21 counts of money laundering.
All the charges are linked to the RM2.6 billion found in his personal accounts, which he has claimed to be a “donation” from the Saudi royal family.
Sessions court judge Azura Alwi yesterday allowed Najib’s application to settle the bail amount in instalments.
Following today’s payment, Najib is required to pay RM500,000 daily, from Monday, until the total sum is paid. — https://www.themalaysianinsight
