Govt letters to sign off with 'I who uphold trust' instead of 'I who follow orders' in new SOP

PETALING JAYA: Official government letters will no longer bear the sign-off "Saya yang menurut perintah" (I, who follow orders).
Instead, civil servants will now end their letters with "Saya yang menjalankan amanah" (I, who uphold trust) effective Thursday (Sept 20).
Public Service Department (PSD) director-general Datuk Borhan Dolah (pic) has issued a circular to the Chief Secretaries and Head of Departments in all Federal ministries on Thursday (Sept 20) informing them of the new standard operating procedure (SOP).
In the letter sighted by The Star, Borhan said that government servants will no longer write "Saya yang menurut perintah" on the bottom left corner before the following signature.
It said the change is in line with the Government's wish for all civil servants to appreciate that every order, task and responsibility is an "amanah" (trust) that must be fulfilled to the best of their abilities.
"In this context, amanah (trust) means to willingly and diligently fulfill tasks and responsibilities in the determined capacity with sincerity to achieve the objective,' he said.
He added that amanah also means "sifat luhur dan murni" (honourable and virtuous), and honesty to yourself, your peers and the organisation.
Borhan said amanah must be the basic virtue of every civil servant in fulfilling their responsibility to serve the people and developing the nation.
He fittingly signed of his letter with "Saya yang menjalankan amanah". -Star
