Police: 56 cases of alcohol poisoning recorded so far


As of 8pm on Wednesday, 56 people, including four locals, are down with poisoning after consuming alcoholic drinks in the Klang Valley, with 19 of them dead and 17 still undergoing treatment.
Selangor police chief Mazlan Mansor (above), in a statement tonight, said the remaining 20 have been discharged from hospitals.
Besides the four locals, he said, the victims comprised 26 from Nepal, Myanmar (13), Bangladesh (10), India (2) and another, whose identity could not be ascertained.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim said four of the deaths were reported in Sentul, of which two were local men and two Myanmar nationals.
It is learnt that the victims had consumed three brands of alcoholic drinks which were bought from several shops in the Klang Valley.
Following the incident, the Health Ministry is in the midst of determining the contents of the deadly alcoholic drinks.
The Selangor police have conducted 12 raids and made seven arrests in the Klang Valley in connection with the case.
