KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR has appealed to Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar to reconsider her decision to step down as the party’s vice-president.
Putatan MP Awang Husaini Sahari said Nurul Izzah had won the post with the highest number of votes in the recent party polls and this was a clear mandate from members.
“We are very concerned with internal party developments that have resulted in Nurul Izzah resigning as vice-president and Penang PKR chief.
“The people, especially the youths, hope she can be the leader of the next generation and continues the reform agenda by fulfilling the New Malaysia agenda.”
The eldest daughter of PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim had said she would remain an “ordinary” member of the party.
Saying she should have made the announcement sooner, Nurul Izzah said the pace of political developments over the last nine months had been “relentless”.
Awang Husaini urged the PKR president and the party leadership to take disciplinary action against any member who disputed the political bureau’s decision in appointing leaders within the party.
“We also hope the president will maintain decisions made, especially in appointing the Sabah and Penang chairmen,” he said. -FMT
