Unity minister unites people to call for his axing - KJ's tweet to Dr M

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department P Waythamoorthy has managed to bring the people together, according to Khairy Jamaluddin.

However, unlike what was specified in his portfolio – to foster unity among Malaysians, the Umno lawmaker claimed that the Hindraf leader united the people in calling for his removal instead.

“Waythamoorthy oversees the unity portfolio. It is clear he has angered the people.

“How can he foster unity? What can he do to unite the rakyat? Oh, the rakyat is united in rejecting him,” he added.

Khairy said this in a tweet this afternoon, in which he tagged the official Twitter account of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He was responding to Mahathir's remarks last night that he was satisfied with Waythamoorthy's performance when commenting on the demands from within Pakatan Harapan and the opposition for the minister to resign or be removed.

Calls for Waythamoorthy to be removed from his position grew louder following the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim on Monday night.

According to the police, Adib was dragged out of a Fire and Rescue Department vehicle and assaulted during the riot outside the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya on Nov 27.

Earlier today, Terengganu Amanah Youth suggested that Waythamoorthy is replaced with former PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar.

Yesterday, Bersatu Youth submitted a memorandum to Mahathir, who is the Bersatu chairperson, demanding the minister's removal on the grounds that he had failed to contain the tension surrounding the temple issue. - Mkini
