Deputy ministers Hannah Yeoh and Steven Sim met with Federal Territories mufti Zulkifli Mohamad today, to seek his advice in dealing with social ills among the country's youths.
During the meeting, Hannah, who is the deputy women, family and community development minister, presented data on issues such as out-of-wedlock pregnancies, abandoned babies, and mental health issues.
"The portfolio I hold covers all races and religions. Our concern is for underaged children.
"As such we have sought the mufti's views on these matters," Yeoh told the media after the meeting in Putrajaya.
As for Sim, who is the deputy youth and sports minister, he sought the mufti's advice on inculcating harmony, honesty and trustworthiness in participants of the Malaysian Future Leader School Programme.
Zulkifli said he was committed to helping the government in tackling these issues.
He had also expressed his concerns about issues regarding racial and religious sensitivities during the meeting.
He said the country would be more peaceful if the racial diversity is accepted, and that united Malaysians would make the country great. - Mkini
