HISHAMMUDDIN Hussein today ridiculed fellow Umno leader Lokman Adam for claiming that there are ongoing attempts to stop the sultan of Johor from becoming the new Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
According to Lokman, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had enlisted Hishammuddin and Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu to assist him in the plot.
Hishammuddin, a former defence minister who is from Johor, laughed at Lokman’s claims.
“Not true at all. I thought Lokman had become a little smarter this year,” Hishammuddin tweeted today.
In a video clip that is currently making the rounds, Umno Supreme Council member Lokman is shown saying Dr Mahathir had sent Hishammuddin and Mohamad to lobby the Malay rulers not to appoint Sultan Ibrahim Ismail of Johor as the new king following the sudden abdication of Sultan Muhammad V last week.
Lokman says in the video that the sultan of Johor should be king instead of the sultan of Pahang as the latter is ailing.
The video clip was posted by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin on Monday.
Lokman previously came under heavy fire from another Umno colleague, Khairy Jamaluddin, for showing blind loyalty to former prime minister Najib Razak in the matter of the 1MDB scandal.
