PETALING JAYA: PPBM’s Redzuan Yusof has rubbished a report accusing him of gunning for the party’s top leadership including the post of chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“This is utter rubbish, too silly and not worthy of a response,” the entrepreneur development minister told FMT, when asked to respond to a Malaysiakini report which quoted sources as saying there was a plot to oust him as the Melaka PPBM chief.
The news portal, citing a source from the party’s Supreme Council, said division leaders in Melaka, through a “unanimous vote”, wanted Redzuan removed as head of the party’s state chapter.
The report said “rebels” were pushing for state government executive councillor Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen as the party’s state chief, claiming they were unhappy with Redzuan’s decision to remove former Kuala Lumpur mayor Ruslin Hasan as the Ayer Limau state constituency coordinator.
“He even tried to canvass in the Supreme Council to put himself as the successor to Muhyiddin for the president’s post and is even eyeing Mahathir’s position,” the portal quoted the unnamed source as saying.
But Redzuan said the claim that he was looking to replace Mahathir and Muhyiddin Yassin was “too ridiculous to deserve a rebuttal”.
“My loyalty to Mahathir and Muhyiddin is plain to see. You can scrutinise all my statements,” Redzuan told FMT.
He said he was focused on delivering in his ministerial duty as well as strengthening the party.
“This is a time for unity, not for mischievous claims especially when Pakatan Harapan (PH) has just been delivered a blow with its first by-election defeat,” he added, referring to PH’s loss in the Cameron Highlands by-election.
He said if there were disagreements in the party, they could be addressed internally and “not through phantom sources using the media”. - FMT
