PENUMPANG LUPA DARATAN
Tamrin Tun Ghafar
Selasa - 09/04/19 ( 1 - 46 )
1. 'Seperti Belanda Minta Tanah, Dah Bagi Betis Nak Paha Pulak’.
19. ‘Burung Gagak Itu, Walaupun Dimandikan Dengan Se-kolah Air Mawar Sekali Pun Tidak Akan Menjadi Putih Bulunya’.
20. Begitu juga ‘Seekor Anjing, Meski Dirantai Dengan Emas Pun, Nescaya Berulang-Ulang Juga Ke Tempat Najis’.
21. Pepatah ada menyebut ‘BAGAIMANA ACUAN BEGITULAH KUIHNYA’.
35. Bukankah selepas kesemua Sultan termasuk Sultan Johor, yang pada mulanya menentang Kemerdekaan Negara menandatangani Perjanjian Kemerdekaan, Perlembagaan dan Undang Persekutuan MENGATASI segala undang - undang tubuh negeri?
46. Semoga Ibrahim dan anaknya Ismail mengambil tindakan mahkamah terhadap saya diatas tulisan ini, namun saya yakin 'Anak Kambing Tidak Akan Jadi Anak Harimau’.
Terima Kasih.

My comments :
This reminds me of two things I have said before.
1. Victor Hugo said, "no power on earth can stop an idea whose time has come".
2. History has proven time and again that in any fight between the people and the kings, the people always win.
So has the time come?
And will the 'king' and the people get into a fight in Johor?
Or over Johor?
Or because of Johor.
Again there are two things to bear in mind.
1. Land grabs and big projects in Johor.
The Sultan and his Crown Prince are harping on the fact (yes it is a fact) that "outsiders" or non-Johoreans are frequently harvesting the wealth of Johor.
The Sultan has made it plain that his interest is only inside his own State of Johor. He has made it clear that it is not his interest nor his intention to "stick his nose" into affairs outside the State.
The Sultan is not too happy that major "non Johorean" corporate players (for example like Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Bukhari) have been given huge projects and franchises inside Johor (like the Senai Airport, the Port of Tanjong Pelepas etc.)
In the age of 'political patronage' most obviously these huge projects were awarded based on who-you-know. Not on what-you-know. The Sultan's beef is very simple 'Why these outsiders?'
And this argument is still continuing. The latest flap in Johor is that huge ship-to-ship transfer hub project (worth RM735 million). This is a Federal government project which has bypassed the State government in Johor.
My view on this part of the story is like this : no matter who gets these projects - whether Johoreans, outsiders or even the Sultan and the Royal House - it does not make much difference to the ordinary rakyat in Johor. Especially the Malay rakyat.
I am seeing now that whether it is the BN / UMNO in power or the Pakatan Harapan in power there seems to be no difference in the fate of the ordinary Malaysians, especially the Malays.
The ordinary Malaysian, especially the ordinary Malay is still in the same spot. And here is my non-stop, incessant warning of the past umpteen years - the Malays are actually falling back.
The Royal House can argue with the Federal government over things like the ship to ship transfer hub project till the cows come home. So what? The ordinary Malay is not going to become healthy, wealthy and wise overnite. Same old same old for them.
Only the big people are arguing over who should be getting the plums.
Only the big people are arguing over who should be getting the plums.
(The exception I see is in the DAP ruled state of Penang where business is booming and the spinoffs are benefiting a lot of people - of all races).
The question is 'Does the Sultan and/or the Royal House have the right to question the award of these huge projects? This is big money that is involved.
The answer is a yes and no.
The answer is a yes and no.
Lets take the 'no' first. No because most certainly everything is done according to the law. There is no way the Federal government is going to approve any project, in any State, without checking the Federal government's legal jurisdiction over such projects.
Yes only if 'political patronage' is involved. In my view Senai and PTP were political patronage. Huge franchises and monopolies given to a favoured crony. Plus there were other awards of projects through political patronage as well (in Johor).
Minus merit and an open tender system, why him instead of her?
Or why they instead of us?
These are valid questions.
I think that is what the Royal House is harping about.
I think that is what the Royal House is harping about.
I dont think this latest ship to ship transfer hub is a 'political patronage' project. The project promoters are private companies which must have done plenty of legwork, spent tidy sums of money on project consultants, preliminaries etc. They have partnered (Hong Kong's?) world class Hutchison Ports, which I believe is a major coup for the promoters as well as Malaysia. The project is also open to international competition, the world economy and other market conditions. They will need real business smarts to make a success of this project.
2. The need for Federal Authority to rule ALL the States as part of one country Malaysia.
At the other end of the see-saw is the absolute requirement for the Federal Government to be able to develop the country how it sees fit. If the Federal government cannot rule as it deems fit, then why have a Federal government at all? Why the need for a Malaysia at all?
(The issue of political patronage is an administrative problem that has to be sorted out by the voters through the ballot box. Like how we kicked out the BN after 62 years.)
Back to the Federal government it cannot be seeking the green light of every State government for every Federal project that is undertaken. It is not only too late but totally out of sync for anyone to be questioning the legal and legitimate powers of the Federal government. The Federal government can only act through the Laws and the Federal Constitution which are already an established part of our system.
My view is that we are too small a country (geographically) to have too much State power. My view is the States should ultimately lose their identities and all our people merge into one united Malaysian society. Including Sabah and Sarawak.
The sooner this happens the better for all of us. The best and easiest way to make this happen is NOT to force things.
Like trying to force feed the creation of a Malaysian culture. You cannot force such things into being. Just maintain the peace, grow the economy, stop being a bloody hindrance to your neighbours, (please stop abducting your neighbours) and just let people be what they ant to be and in no time we will have a united Malaysian identity.
This is really not a difficult thing to do at all.
