Anwar: Tourism projects in PD to benefit nearby areas, including Rantau

SEREMBAN: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says he will ensure that the development in Port Dickson will have a spillover effect that benefits nearby places, including Rantau.
“I am getting investment from many countries for Port Dickson – theme park, hotel. I will ensure the development reaches the border of Rantau,” he said at a ceramah in Taman Sri Ramai, Kuala Sawah here.
Anwar, who is Port Dickson MP, later told reporters that several tourism projects in Port Dickson were currently awaiting approval.
“I hope the development will also benefit nearby areas, including Rantau,” he said.
“This is not something conditional (benefiting Rantau onlly if Pakatan wins). But if Dr S. Streram were to win, I would have someone to work with,” he added.
During the ceramah, Anwar said many questioned his decision to choose an Indian candidate to contest in Rantau, where more than 50% of the voters are Malays.
“I am also Malay, but in Port Dickson, Indians supported me. Why can’t Malays support an Indian too?” he asked the crowd.
Anwar also said the most important thing Pakatan Harapan did after taking over Putrajaya was to stop the crime of stealing.
“Many questioned Pakatan: What have you all done for the past 10 months? I think the most important thing is we have stopped the crime of stealing from happening in the country,” he said.
“I don’t understand why many can question this and that, but they did not question theft,” he said, referring to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal.
He said the US Department of Justice and many other countries were investigating the case but some of the uztaz just kept quiet.
Anwar also said he would ask the team to enlarge the Pakatan logo on buntings and posters.
“I will be wearing the logo on my shirt so you all can recognise it and don’t vote wrongly,” he added.
The Rantau by-election on April 13 will see Pakatan candidate Dr Streram squaring off against Barisan Nasional candidate and incumbent Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and independent candidates Mohd Nor Yassin and Malar Rajaram.
The Rantau by-election was triggered following a Federal Court decision to uphold an earlier ruling by the Election Court to nullify the results for Rantau.
In GE14, Umno deputy president Mohamad won the state seat unopposed after Dr Streram was denied entry to submit his nomination papers as he did not have a tag or a pass.
Election Court judge Azimah Omar allowed Dr Streram's petition for a by-election on the grounds that Mohamad's election victory was not valid.
The Rantau polls is the seventh by-election post-GE14, and the third to be held in 2019 after Cameron Highlands and Semenyih.- Star
