KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Nga Kor Ming today denied claims that the Felda White Paper was uploaded to the Parliament website a day before it was tabled.
He said Parliament staff had confirmed that the white paper was only uploaded after Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali tabled it in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
“The Felda White Paper was only uploaded yesterday afternoon, so there was no breach of any rules.
“The claims of opposition members that Parliament staff uploaded it (early) and breached the embargo are not true and baseless,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
A Twitter user writing under the handle of @syahirsyhr previously said the document was uploaded in the “risalat” section of the Parliament website before it was tabled by Azmin.
The document was supposed to have been embargoed until 11.30am yesterday.
There were also calls for action to be taken against former prime minister Najib Razak for uploading part of the document on Facebook.
Nga said Parliament staff had only updated the website to reflect the agenda for tabling the white paper, adding that no content was uploaded before Azmin tabled the document.
He said the agenda of the sitting must be publicised to inform the people of the proceedings.
He added that a motion had been tabled to refer Najib to Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee, to allow him to explain the alleged offence.
“We do not know if Pekan is in the wrong or not,” he said, referring to Najib who is Pekan MP.
“We will give him a chance, including to bring his lawyer to help him provide an explanation.” - FMT
