Dr Wee counts his blessings, calls on Malaysians to maintain peace and harmony

PETALING JAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has called on Malaysians to continue keeping the country peaceful and harmonious.

"As the Easter weekend arrives, I find myself counting my blessings for being a part of our great nation, where there is peace and harmony in our multiracial and multicultural society.

"I believe this is a time to remind ourselves that the renewal of this peace and harmony must be continual and deliberate," he said.

He added that most importantly, "it must be aimed at refining each of our capacities for forgiveness towards each other and across ethnicity and creed".

Dr Wee also noted that it is heartwarming to hear that the government was willing to grant Christian civil servants a day of unrecorded leave to observe Good Friday today.

"However, I also call upon the authorities and government of the day to exercise forbearance, patience, and empathy towards the less fortunate of our community and create policies that are people oriented, and not based on rigid bureaucracy," he said in a post on his Facebook page on Friday (April 19).

The Ayer Hitam MP also expressed hope that everyone would work towards a nation with less hatred and one that shows mercy and kindness, especially to "those who are neglected and marginalised in our society".

"With that, I wish all my Christian friends and colleagues a blessed Good Friday, and a joyful and meaningful Easter Sunday," he added.- Star
