Losing Rantau won't hurt Anwar's chance to be PM - Mat Hasan

RANTAU POLLS | Anwar Ibrahim's chances to become prime minister would not be affected if PKR loses the Rantau by-election, said Umno acting president Mohamad Hasan.
"What does the Rantau by-election have to do with (Anwar becoming) prime minister?
"The issue of Anwar's chances becoming slim (if PKR loses) doesn't arise," Mohamad said at a press conference in Rantau today.
He said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has stressed that Anwar would succeed him.
"It's just that we don't know when (Mahathir) will step down," Mohamad (photo) added.
PKR has thus far won all three of the by-elections it has contested.
However, Pakatan Harapan has lost the last two polls in Cameron Highlands and Semenyih, putting pressure on Anwar to secure a win for the coalition.
The Rantau by-election is a four-cornered fight between Mohamad, PKR's Dr S Streram and independent candidates R Malar and Mohd Nor Yasin.
Polling day is on April 13.
Meanwhile, Mohamad declined to respond to Anwar's remarks that he could compromise on the sale of beer at the Seremban International Golf Club (SIGC) because he was close to PAS.
Anwar said Mohamad's successor as Negeri Sembilan menteri besar, Aminuddin Harun was a devout Muslim who did not want to be complicit in the sale of alcohol. - Mkini
