No tax increases planned, PM tells potential investors in China

BEIJING: Malaysia has no plan to increase taxes, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has assured foreign investors.
Instead, the government is looking into ways to reduce taxes, he added.
"We have reduced taxes for imports of luxury goods and this helps businesses to grow because more people come to shop in Malaysia.
"The government will study to see if we can make it more attractive and business-friendly," he said at a dialogue session with Chinese investors here on Thursday (April 25).

Some 40 businessmen attended the event.

Dr Mahathir also assured investors that the country's policy would remain unchanged.
"Malaysia is a very stable country, we do not change much so you can be comfortable with the rules and laws here.
"Despite a change of government, our (business) policies remain the same," he emphasised.
Dr Mahathir welcomed investors to voice any concerns and seek assistance from the government.
Also present at the event were six ministers, namely Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah (Foreign Affairs), Darell Leiking (International Trade and Industry), Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (Economic Affairs), Anthony Loke (Transport), Datuk Salahuddin Ayub (Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry) and Zuraida Kamaruddin (Housing and Local Government), as well as Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.- Star
