Rafizi questions Tok Mat’s RM10 mil transfer to buy London property

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli.
SEREMBAN: PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli questioned the action of Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan in sending RM10 million to buy a residential property in London.
He said following the issue, many Umno leaders had defended the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Rantau by-election by saying that “Tok Mat (as Mohamad is fondly known) was a rich guy” as he had previously held several corporate posts.
“So, if he is really wealthy, why was Tok Mat afraid that people will know about it (money transfer)?” he said at a Pakatan Harapan ceramah here tonight held in conjunction with the Rantau by-election.
Rafizi questioned whether the money transferred was above the limit allowed by the Bank Negara.
Earlier this week, Mohamad, who is former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar, said that the RM10 million he remitted through a money changer a decade ago was for the purchase of an apartment in London.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Rantau by-election denied that he was involved in any wrongdoing and that the case was investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
He welcomed any fresh investigation into the case by the authorities.
Negeri Sembilan state assembly speaker Zulkefly Mohamad Omar had earlier questioned why no action was taken against Mohamad for transferring such a “humongous” amount of money through a money changer.

Mohamad is facing Pakatan Harapan’s Dr Streram Sinnasamy and two independent candidates, Malar Rajaram and Mohd Nor Yassin, in the by-election this Saturday. - FMT
