Rantau voter lodges report, says he got phone call offering bribe

SEREMBAN: A voter in Rantau has lodged a police report saying he received a call offering him money if he votes for Barisan Nasional.
Pan Choo Chang, 72, said he received the call at around 1.34pm on Wednesday (April 4).
“A guy asked if I am a supporter of Barisan. He said before voting on April 13, I can go to the Barisan counter to collect RM50,” he told a press conference hosted by Negri Sembilan MCA chairman Siow Koi Voon.
“But I know this is bribery and it is against the law, so I scolded him and hung up,” he said.
Pan, who is also Kuala Sawah MCA branch chief, said the man actually wanted to call his wife but he happened to pick up the phone.
He added that he had lodged a police report on the matter and complained to the MCA.
Meanwhile, MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, who was at the press conference, urged voters in Rantau to be careful and not fall into such traps.
“We do not know what the intention is or if there is any agenda behind such calls. Rantau voters should be aware and not be affected by such incidents,” he said.
Siow said voters should be careful over such calls, adding that neither Barisan nor the MCA would offer money for support.
At the press conference, Dr Mah said MCA would go all out to assist Barisan candidate Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan to campaign.
“Mohamad Hasan is fondly known as Tok Mat here. He has contributed a lot to the state and the constituency here.
“MCA will go all out to campaign for him,” he said after launching campaign leaflets.
Dr Mah said the leaflets prepared by MCA targeted the Chinese community here.
The leaflets list down Mohamad’s contribution all these years to Chinese schools, among other things.- Star
