'Vote BN, get RM50': Mat Hasan cries foul over attempt to tarnish reputation

RANTAU POLLS | BN supporters in Rantau are getting calls offering them RM50 if they vote for the coalition, Mohamad Hasan claimed today.
The BN candidate said this was an attempt to tarnish the reputation of the coalition, as they have made no such efforts to fish for votes.
"There are efforts being made to call voters whom they know are hardcore BN voters... Urging them to vote for BN, for which they will get money.
"I have asked them to lodge a police report. I feel this is an effort to tarnish BN's name.
"This is to pre-empt (any accusations) so that people won't say that this is BN's doing," he said at a press conference in the constituency.
According to Mohamad, several individuals have asked him about these alleged calls over the past two to three days.
He called on the Election Commission to investigate the matter.
'Carry out duties fairly'
Mohamad also urged the EC to be fair in carrying out its duties, after it had purportedly put a stop to an internal BN meeting in Kuala Sawah – which included a yasin recitation – several days ago.
"The EC even stopped a yasin recitation... This was an internal meeting in a home.
"The EC must carry out its duties fairly without taking sides," he stressed.
Malaysiakini has contacted the EC for comment.
Mohamad said this when asked to comment on a buffet being provided at a Pakatan Harapan ceramah on Tuesday night.
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim had explained that the ceramah and the food were organised by a NGO.
On Wednesday, EC deputy chief Azmi Sharom told Malaysiakini that providing buffets would be "crossing the line" with regard to the Election Offences Act 1954.
He noted, however, that the law lacks clarity, and said that such cases must be referred to the courts for guidance.  - Mkini
