Bersatu disciplinary board given one month to review complaints

Malaysiakini

A Bersatu state leader today pushed the party's disciplinary board to quickly review complaints made against individuals who called for a supreme council meeting on May 11. The meeting was alleged to be invalid.
Kedah Bersatu deputy chief Anuar Abdul Hamid said he hopes the board would review complaints lodged by six party members with more urgency.
"Today, we received a reply from the board's legal counsels saying they have received our complaints and the board is looking at them.
"However, according to the law firm, their client (the disciplinary board) is not obliged to any time frame to respond to the complaints, and they would not reveal anything for now until they finish reviewing the matter," he told Malaysiakini when contacted today.
Anuar (above) added that he will wait a month to allow the board ample time to review the complaints, before taking further action.
Earlier this month, Anuar together with five other Bersatu leaders and members wrote to the board, urging it to investigate and act against those who called for the supreme council meeting, which was supposed to be held on May 11.
The meeting, which was subsequently aborted, was scheduled to be held in the absence of Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad and deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir.
According to Anuar, the board has responded through the latter's legal representative Chooi, Saw, and Lim Advocates and Solicitors.
The response received stated that "appropriate actions are being taken", and that the board has "its own procedures in handling disciplinary complaints".
"Thus, our client is not subjected to any time limit set by you or your clients," said the letter, which was addressed to the complainants' lawyer Haniff Khatri.
Commenting on this, Anuar said that while the board is not subjected to any time limit, they should not be delaying the matter.
Meanwhile, the politician also raised a question on the disciplinary board's allegiance.
He insinuated that the board is part of the Bersatu faction loyal to party president Muhyiddin Yassin. Anuar is known to be aligned to Bersatu chairperson Mahathir.
Bersatu has been torn into two factions as Mahathir and Muhyiddin parted ways when the latter chose to leave the Pakatan Harapan coalition in Feb.
This caused the collapse of the Harapan federal government which was then led by Mahathir. The government was later replaced by Perikatan Nasional, a loose political coalition that supported Muhyiddin to become the new prime minister. - Mkini
