Former Johor menteri besar Osman Sapian has accused state Bersatu chief Mazlan Bujang of lying after the latter said the party's troubles with Umno had been resolved.
Osman (above), who was present at a meeting between Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Johor Bersatu and Umno leaders yesterday, said the matter was not yet over.
"It's not resolved. Mazlan lied. He is a liar," the former menteri besar told Malaysiakini.
Malaysiakini had contacted Mazlan for a response.
Osman is a close ally of Muhyiddin while Mazlan was previously seen to be aligned to Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Muhyiddin had met with Johor Bersatu and Umno to resolve a conflict in the state which revolved, in particular, over political appointments.
Berita Harian cited Osman as saying that during the meeting, it was proposed that an inter-party committee be formed to resolve outstanding problems.
"The prime minister also wants the two parties to grow closer, with decisions made respecting all parties in Perikatan Nasional," he added.
Besides Mazlan and Osman, those who were at the meeting included Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad, his predecessor Sahruddin Jamal as well as Umno's Samsol Bari Jamal
One of the those who attended did not disagree with Mazlan's assessment of the meeting's outcome.
"I'm not saying there wasn't (an agreement). We agreed on several suggestions made by the prime minister and it will be implemented, and I'm confident it will strengthen political ties and state government programmes," the source told Malaysiakini on the condition of anonymity.
Tensions between Bersatu and Umno in Johor had threatened to destabilise the state and even trigger snap polls.
PN has just 29 state seats in Johor, against 27 from Harapan meaning even a single defection from PN would cause a hung state assembly.
Besides the inter-party tensions, there is also the rift within Bersatu itself between those loyal to Muhyiddin and those who side with Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Harapan. - Mkini
