Normal in Pakistan

I was just scanning the Pakistan news this morning. So far this month (May 2020) 15 soldiers and officers have been killed (that have been reported) in three different incidents across Pakistan. Here is the news from Pakistan :

1. Seven soldiers killed in Balochistan

7 soldiers martyred in two separate terror attacks in Balochistan: ISPR
terrorists targeted vehicle of Frontier Corps (FC) in Mach using IEDs

separate incident at Kech, another soldier martyred in exchange of fire

2. 6 FC personnel martyred in IED blast near Pak-Iran border

5
Frontier Corps (FC) soldiers and 1 officer martyred

targeted with IED near Pakistan-Iran border Friday
returning from patrol in Buleda — 14 km from Iran border

3.  MIRAMSHAH: 2 soldiers martyred in rocket attack in North Waziristan Wed
rocket slammed into checkpoint in Edek village, near Mirali town, around midnight

My comments :  Losing 15 soldiers over two weeks is the normal in Pakistan. The first two incidents happened in Balochistan in the west of the country along the border with Iran. (The approximate area shaded in blue on the map). The local Balochi people have long been fighting for autonomy and independence from Pakistan. The Balochi people have their own language and culture. They call the Pakistani soldiers the 'Punjabi Army'.

Hundreds of thousands of Balochis populated the oil industry in the Middle East. They are known to be good technicians and engineers. Now with the demise of the oil industry there will be less money, less opportunities, more frustrations and possibly more unrest  in Balochistan.

The other attack in North Waziristan (shaded green on the map) is close to the Afghan border. Taliban territory. The people there are mostly Pashtuns who also do not like the Punjabi dominated politics in Pakistan.

Pakistan has also been hit by the corona virus. There are over 45,000 reported cases with 1,000 deaths. There were 1,700 new cases yesterday. I believe these numbers are not accurate at all.

These are difficult times for the people.
