Takiyuddin: After one-day May 18 meeting, Dewan will reconvene on July 13 for 15 days

PUTRAJAYA: The Dewan Rakyat will reconvene on July 13, two months after its one-day meeting on May 18.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said Parliament would sit for 15 days.
He said the sitting next week would have no ceremonies, in line with standard operating procedures stipulated under the movement control order (MCO).
"The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, whose attendance is confirmed, will be addressing the lawmakers, '" he said on Friday (May 8).
Takiyuddin said after the opening of the Parliament session, the Dewan Rakyat would proceed with its meeting and only focus on government business.
"This includes the tabling of two Supplementary Supply Bills, the decoration on the appointment of the Opposition leader, the Parliamentary Select Committee and the motion to appoint the chairman and deputy chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.
"We have also agreed to maintain the practice of appointing a lawmaker from the Opposition to head the PAC," he said.
Takiyuddin said the Covid-19 pandemic had affected the earlier plan for the Dewan Rakyat to sit from May 18 to June 26.
"But because the Dewan Rakyat must convene six months from the last day of the last sitting, we have decided to only have it for a day which is May 18 and adjourned it to July 13 where the Dewan will meet for 15 days," he said.
It was reported, however, that Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof had accepted a motion to hold a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Ariff said the motion, filed by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, would be brought forward to the upcoming one-day meeting on May 18. - Star
