Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad has penned a message to boost the spirits of Pejuang's election machinery ahead of the upcoming Johor state elections.
The message came at a time when Mahathir is still undergoing treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur and unable to be with his party.
"Insya-Allah, I will recover, and we will be able to meet, be together again to continue this fight.
"I feel a bit despondent because, for the time being, I'm physically unable to be with all of you in the Johor polls," said the Pejuang chairperson.
"However, have faith, my spirit and my soul is with all of you in every step of the way," said Mahathir in his letter to Pejuang members, shared on his Facebook page.
'Life-long fight for the country'
At 97-years-old, Mahathir said many have questioned why he was still concerned with worldly affairs rather than focusing on the afterlife.
However, Mahathir said fighting for the country is a lifelong act of worship and a duty that he must carry until the end.
The Johor polls are being held following the dissolution of the state assembly on Jan 22. The Election Commission will announce the election nomination and voting dates on Feb 9.
Since Wednesday, Mahathir had been allowed daily home visits while remaining admitted in IJN for physiotherapy and further treatments.
The ex-premier added that Pejuang's foray into Johor was to prevent the corrupt from gaining power and ending their destruction.
"Power is not to gather personal riches and satisfy earthly desires. It is to free the state from grasps of such individuals," he said.
Mahathir also addressed critics who claimed Pejuang was no different than other political parties, stressing the party comprises individuals unwilling to work together with "traitors and kleptocrats".
He named Johor Pejuang chief Shahruddin Md Salleh, a former Umno and Bersatu leader, as an example of such individuals in the party.
"We realise the path we take will not be easy. But a struggle is birthed from thorny winding roads.
"Continue the struggle and don't even turn back, come what may," he said. - Mkini
