PKR election: Chaos in PD, riot police deployed to diffuse situation

Riot control police were deployed to Port Dickson earlier this evening after chaos erupted at premises used as a PKR election polling station.

According to Malay daily Berita Harian, the incident started when a group who called themselves 'not pro-MB' alleged that the election was rigged to favour Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun, who is contesting the Port Dickson division chief post.

This led them to stage a protest at the polling station before a heated argument ensued between the protesters and another group.

As the situation became tenser, police officers including those equipped with anti-riot gear were reportedly forced to interfere to prevent untoward incidents.

The police action reportedly helped to diffuse the verbal fights from escalating, and the election process resumed afterwards.

Aminuddin Harun

Aminuddin is challenging incumbent Port Dickson PKR division chief M Ravi, who is also the Sri Tanjung assemblyperson.

They are facing two other opponents Halim Khomiza and B Sevalingam in the run for the division chief seat.

Aminuddin is also running for the PKR vice-presidency on a Rafizi Ramli ticket.

PKR is holding its leadership election which kicked off on May 13 and is to run for 10 days. - Mkini
