Bersatu's leadership once accused Zuraida Kamaruddin of disciplinary problems and issued her a show-cause letter.
When contacted, Bersatu supreme council member Faiz Na'aman said Zuraida was accused of being involved in other parties and did not contribute to Bersatu's campaign during the Malacca and Johor elections.
"The supreme council had issued her a show-cause letter. There was no response from her, as far as I know.
"(She was accused of) being involved in the activities of other parties and failing to attend supreme council meetings more than three times consecutively without leave," said Faiz.
Earlier today, Zuraida announced she was leaving Bersatu for upstart Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM), ostensibly due to the latter's ideals.
She added that she will continue to support Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and eventually discuss her resignation from his cabinet.
Meanwhile, Faiz said Zuraida had a right to choose her associations but she should have been upfront on her links with PBM.
"This is democracy. However, she appears opportunistic and wants to lead her own party.
"Wouldn't it be more honest if she admitted it from the start (she was involved in) PBM which aims to reach out to non-Muslims and former PKR members in the rural areas?" asked Faiz. - Mkini
