PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed claims that the coalition lacked Malay support and had received only 19% of Malay votes in the recent general election.

Anwar said a preliminary analysis of the election results showed that PH received the support of 31% of Malay voters overall. The data would be updated in the next two weeks, he said.

He said if PH had received only 19% Malay support as claimed, the coalition would not have won 82 parliamentary seats.

“Of course there were areas with low (Malay) support, especially in Kelantan and Terengganu, but in other places we received more than 50% Malay votes, like in Selangor, Penang, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan,” he said at a press conference at PKR headquarters here today.

Anwar, who is PKR president, had chaired several meetings, including that of the PKR central leadership council.

He said he is confident that PH and its partners in the unity government can steer the country as a solid team and “use the space available to clean up the culture of corruption and propel the national economy more convincingly”, Bernama reported.

Taking into account the votes cast for PH, Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and other parties), “we would have more than two-thirds of the total number of votes at the general election,” he said. - FMT
