PETALING JAYA: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) vice-chancellor Haim Hilman Abdullah’s tenure was shortened after the higher education ministry received complaints against him.

Higher education minister Khaled Nordin said an investigation was carried out after his ministry received complaints from UUM lecturers as well as from the university’s board of directors last year, Harian Metro reported.

“Basically, this was not something that was done on a whim,” Khaled was quoted as saying.

“However, I don’t need to explain the reasons (behind Haim’s shortened tenure).

“The change only affected his responsibilities (as a vice-chancellor). This doesn’t mean he was expelled, he remains a professor in his faculty.”

On Dec 20 last year, the ministry announced that Haim’s tenure as UUM’s vice-chancellor would come to an end on Jan 18, exactly one year after the 49-year-old was appointed to the post. - FMT
